Data Collection

IsItDownChecker is committed to protecting your privacy. We collect minimal data to provide our uptime monitoring service:

  • No personal accounts: We do not require user registration or login.
  • No cookies: We use cookie-less analytics (Cloudflare Web Analytics) that do not track individual users.
  • No Google Analytics: We do not use Google Analytics or any tracking pixels.

IP Address Handling

When you submit a crowd-sourced outage report, we need to prevent duplicate submissions. To do this:

  • Your IP address is hashed using SHA-256 with a daily rotating salt before storage.
  • Raw IP addresses are never written to any persistent store.
  • The hashed value cannot be reversed to reveal your actual IP address.
  • Hash values expire after 90 days when old crowd reports are automatically deleted.

Information We Store

  • Check results: Automated website status check data (domain, status, response time, timestamp). This contains no personal information.
  • Crowd reports: Problem type selected, optional description text, and a hashed IP identifier for deduplication. No personal information is collected.
  • Outage events: Aggregated outage data including start time, resolution time, and peak report counts.

Data Retention

  • Check results and crowd reports are automatically deleted after 90 days.
  • Outage event records are retained indefinitely for historical reference.

Third-Party Services

  • Cloudflare: We use Cloudflare for CDN, DDoS protection, and cookie-less web analytics. Cloudflare’s privacy policy applies to traffic routing.
  • Google Favicons API: We use Google’s favicon service to display website icons. This sends the domain name (not your personal data) to Google.

Children’s Privacy

IsItDownChecker does not knowingly collect any personal information from children under the age of 13.

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
