Is it down checker (“we,” “our,” or “the Service”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that data. It works alongside our Terms of Service and our Methodology page, which documents the technical pipeline that produces every status verdict on the site.

Data We Collect

We collect minimal data to operate our uptime monitoring service:

  • No personal accounts: We do not require user registration or login.
  • Usage data: Cloudflare Web Analytics collects aggregate, cookieless page-view data (country, browser type, page URL) without tracking individual users.
  • Outage reports: When you voluntarily submit a crowd-sourced outage report, we store the problem type, an optional description, and a hashed identifier derived from your IP address (see below).

IP Address Handling

When you submit a crowd-sourced outage report, we prevent duplicate submissions by:

  • Hashing your IP address with SHA-256 and a daily rotating salt before storage.
  • Raw IP addresses are never written to any persistent store.
  • The hashed value cannot be reversed to reveal your actual IP address.
  • Hash values expire after 90 days when old crowd reports are automatically deleted.

Information We Store

  • Check results: Automated website status data (domain, HTTP status, response time, timestamp). Contains no personal information.
  • Crowd reports: Problem type, optional description text, and a hashed IP identifier for deduplication. No personal information is collected.
  • Outage events: Aggregated outage data including start time, resolution time, and peak report counts. Retained indefinitely for historical reference.

Cookies & Advertising

We use Google AdSense to display advertisements on our website. Google AdSense uses cookies — including the DoubleClick DART cookie — to serve ads based on your prior visits to our site and other websites on the internet. These cookies allow Google and its partners to serve ads to our users based on their visit to our site and/or other sites on the Internet.

  • Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to our site and/or other sites on the Internet.
  • You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ad Settings.
  • You may also opt out of third-party vendor use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info or www.networkadvertising.org.

Our own first-party analytics (Cloudflare Web Analytics) remain cookie-less and do not track individual users.

Children’s Privacy

Is it down checker is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us immediately.

GDPR & CCPA Compliance

For EEA/UK users (GDPR): The legal basis for processing any personal data (hashed IP identifiers in outage reports) is our legitimate interest in preventing spam and duplicate submissions. Advertising cookies served by Google AdSense may require your consent under GDPR, which Google manages through its own consent mechanisms.

For California residents (CCPA): We do not sell your personal information. The only personal-adjacent data we process is the hashed IP identifier described above, which cannot be linked back to you. You have the right to know what data we hold and to request its deletion — contact us at contact@isitdownchecker.com.

You have the right to:

  • Access information about what data we hold
  • Request deletion of any crowd reports you’ve submitted — contact us with the approximate time and domain
  • Opt out of personalized advertising via Google Ad Settings or aboutads.info

Data Retention

  • Check results and crowd reports are automatically deleted after 90 days.
  • Outage event records are retained indefinitely for historical reference.
  • Advertising cookies are managed by Google and subject to Google’s data retention policies.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. Continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
