How It Works
Is it down checker uses a dual-signal methodology that combines two independent data sources:
- Automated HTTPS Monitoring — Our servers send real HTTP requests to every monitored website, measuring response codes, latency (time-to-first-byte), DNS resolution, and timeouts. This tells us if a site is reachable from our infrastructure.
- Crowd-Sourced User Reports — Users submit "it's down for me" reports when they experience issues. We compare current report volume against a 7-day rolling baseline to detect abnormal spikes — catching regional outages, CDN failures, and application errors that server checks alone would miss.
These two signals feed into our 3-tier status system: No Problems (green), Possible Problems (yellow), and Problems Detected (red). Privacy & Transparency
We don't collect personal data. We don't require accounts or logins. We don't use cookies or tracking pixels.
